smack comedy show
how it started:
in october last year, charlie and i held a hot dog eating competition in our front yard. it was very entertaining and it was lots of fun to put together! but because it was at our house, we wanted to limit the amount of people that would come, so we only told everyone about it the day before and it still turned out great!
after the hot dog eating contest we were approached by a friend that does comedy, we've heard he's pretty funny but we've never actually seen him live. he had an idea to do another smack event, this time, a comedy show!
we think it would be a great idea to put on events like this, they're heaps of fun and gives everyone an opportunity to get out and have a good time!

here's the details:
- the event be hosted at a community hall venue in mornington.
- it will be held on may 1st (a friday night).
- the comedy show will go from 7pm-9pm. doors open from 6pm-10pm for the pop-up.
- there will be 4-6 comedians including our friend rupert (he's a really funny guy i swear) along with several untrained professionals.
- smack will have a stall/pop-up set up.
- there will be a special deal for everyone that buys a ticket to the comedy show!
- the stall will be open before and after the comedy show + when there is a half time break.
- byo alcohol- up to a limit of one 6 pack per person. (cans only. glass is banned)
- early bird tickets at the low low ticket price of $15 (this price will increase later if you miss out)
- this event is recommended for people over the age of 18. anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian over the age of 18.

the award-winning japanese comedian known as 'waka' will be performing at the smack comedy show on may 1st!
waka is currently performing his new show titled "wabi-sabi comedy" (侘び寂び) at the melbourne international comedy festival. it is a japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and incompleteness.
waka believes the concept of wabi-sabi is the great way to make people happy. and he also thinks it might connect and adapt to his comedy.
we are very excited to welcome waka to the smack comedy show!
takashi wakasugi has been on several tv shows including taskmaster australia, guy montgomery's guy-mont spelling bee, thank god you're here and has performed live broadcasts of his stand up comedy shows at the gala.

ben hunter
ben hunter is bringing a new twist to his set, a cruel, wicked and otherwise dastardly twist. the noggin of ben hunter is an enigma to most, some thought they understood him as a youthful man, 25 years young but recently he has taken a turn, looking at life from a whole new direction. an evil one.

opening act for wickedly inclined artists such as aaron chen, aunty donna, gianmarco soresi, morgan jay, jeff arcuri, vittorio angelone and emma holland.
we're very excited to have ben at the smack comedy show, typically known for being lighthearted young gentleman, he has announced his new show "evil comedy". we are keen to see what he brings, whether it be good or evil, to the smack comedy show!

rupert mclorinan
rupert came from humble beginnings, with a love for comedy movies and a love for laughs. he has been performing stand up in local comedy clubs in the big smoke for the past 3 years and finally wants to give some love (and laughs) to his home town.
we're very keen to see rupert bring lots of love and laughs to the smack comedy show!

sonia di iorio
with over 16 years of stand-up at comedy clubs, festivals and events sonia is a seasoned comic who has made her mark on stages across the country. she has opened for ronny chieng, performed at splendour in the grass and appeared on the roast of tommy little.
In 2017 she won the peer voted spleen comedian of the year, in 2018 she began writing for some of the country’s top tv comedy shows and in 2025 she began performing stand-up in italian!
thanks to our high school education here in mornington, we can say "grazie" to sonia for performing at the smack comedy show, luckily the show will be in english because "mi chiamo smack" is about as much italian as we can remember!
